Surge

Panic set in as the gauntlet's conversion process went awry, and the once steady hum turned into a chaotic buzz. Desperately, they tried to tear the port connection wires free, their face contorted in a cringe of fear.

The Concept

"Surge" is based on a concept I made of a mechanist, in a dimly lit workshop, battling a wild surge of energy from their gauntlet's connection to left port wires. Sparks flying, illuminating the scene as they struggle to control the intense power.

I made this concept to plan out the assets I already made such as the mechanist, the gauntlets and the depository environment. What I wanted to achieve in the 3D rendition was the dynamic sway of the mechanist and dramatic lighting as if this was a moment of panic and strife frozen in time. 

The Breakdown

This piece took a culmination of several other projects, including some of the skills I needed being learned simultaneously to this project such as using XGen for her hair and Marvelous designer to simulate the cloth for the sleeves. I used the background from a previous project but needed to extend it dramatically to fit the composition in the concept.
The character herself has been fully sculpted and all she needed was to be posed for the shot which I did in Zbrush. For the facial expression I made sure to keep it on its own layer to be able to toggle in between neutral and posed to make sure the forms were correct.
Then comes the many many iterations of her hair and also face texture.
